Hey I’ve been very interested in wicca and paganism for a while now, but I am simply terrified of anything ghost or demon related, is the anything I can do to keep that stuff away from me and my house??? thanks ^.^

Hey there! The best way to keep spirits and demons away is to not invite them into your home or near you. The experiences I’ve had with spirits and the like happened because that is part of my path. I’ve always been able to sense the presence of spirits. It’s just part of who I am. I did however find some handy tips to safeguard yourself and your house from spirits.

For protecting your home, you can plant houseleeks on your roof. The dead cannot stand being close to this plant that in Latin means “ever-living.”

After a death in the family, cover all the mirrors, this will keep the ghosts from using any mirror as a portal from one world to the other.

Building a fire outside your home will keep ghosts away. This is why you see so many people building fires on Halloween.

Light candles and leave them burning throughout the night.

Hang rowan and St. Johns Wort over all your doorways to keep out evil ghosts.

Wearing lodestone or even carrying it with you will keep ghosts at bay.

If you believe, you are being followed by a ghost, jump in a stream, river, or creek or just cross over it. A ghost cannot cross over moving water.

Carry a sprig of rosemary inside a seashell that you have bound with a red thread. This will keep all ghosts away.

Create a hexagram and in the center write the letters AGLA. This amulet will keep away all evil spirits.

Jimson weed, Angelica and nettle are all three great for protecting oneself against evil ghosts.

You can also go through a cleft of a tree if you think you are being followed by a ghost. The ghost will become confused and you will get away.

Supplies:

  • Red candle
  • Table salt

After nightfall when the sky is dark, light the red candle. Clear your mind of dark, unhappy thoughts or distractions and invoke your personal protection spirits.

Hold the lit candle at chest level and face East. Say the following: Spirits of the East of the Rising Sun I ask your help. Hear me as I ask for your protection.

Turn to the North Say the following: Spirits of the North of the Ice and Snow, I ask your help. Hear me as I ask for your protection.

Turn to the West, say the following: Spirits of the West, of the Setting Sun, I ask your help. Hear me ask as I ask for your protection.

Turn to the South, say the following: Spirits of the South of the warmth I ask your help. Hear me as I ask for your protection.

Face the doorway Say the following while sprinkling salt onto the flame of the candle:

As I gather the protection of the Wind, Earth, Fire, and Water, I ask that no Evil shall be allowed across the boundries of this home. All who reside in it are begged to receive your protection. Goddess of the Moon here my plea for protection. Sprinkle more salt on the door frames, on the window sills. When you are done, hold the candle again at chest level, face the East: Thank you, Spirits of the East. Return to your homes with my gratitude for your help and protection. Face North Thank you Spirits of the North. Return to your homes with my gratitude for your help and protection. Face West Thank you Spirits of the West. Return to your homes with my gratitude for your help and proctection. Face South Thank you Spirits of the South. Return to your homes with my gratitude for your help and protection. Face the first door again : Thank you Goddess of the Moon. With your protection this house and all who live in it are safe from harm. No evil shall cross, no evil shall enter. Return to your home with my gratitude for your protection. Hold the candle up over your head, then down to the floor. Be sure to thank the Spirits and let them know you are finished. Spirits must know that they are done and are released to go back to their homes. Un-thanked Spirits may not want to go home right away, and can cause problems.
